The new season of Supernatural is getting a solid endorsement from another cult horror series, reuniting Buffyverse regulars Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters in a dual guest starring role that TVLine is calling the “biggest on-screen Buffy reunion to date.”

The report goes that Carpenter and Marsters will be playing husband and wife for an episode of Season 7 titled “Shut Up, Dr. Phil.” Showrunner Sara Gamble says: “This episode is ‘Bewitched gone wrong. [It was] all upside for this successful man (Marsters) while he was married to the witch (Carpenter), but now that he’s pissed her off, the whole town is paying the price.” And then, presumably, the Winchester Brothers step in and shenanigans ensue.

This co-role is just the latest in the two actors keeping to their geeky roots post-Buffy/Angel: Carpenter had a turn in The Expendables while Marsters has shown up on Smallville, Caprica, Torchwood and a whole lot of superhero cartoons (if you’ve ever thought the voices of lex Luthor and Mr. Fantastic have been familiar recently, that’s why). Supernatural itself has also picked up the habit of casting Whedonverse alumni, with Amber Benson (Buffy), Julie Benz (Buffy, Angel), mark Sheppard (Dollhouse, Firefly) and Amy Acker (Dollhouse, Angel) all making appearences.

The episode in question is going to be filmed August 22, after which Carpenter is due down in New Orleans for a cameo on the set of Haunted High, the latest Syfy original also featuring M.C. Gainey and Danny Trejo. In it, she’s going to be continuing the fine tradition of hot librarian characters in film.

Supernatural’s new season in the US starts on Friday, 23 September at 9/8c.
