The latest series of X Factor kicked off on Saturday night with a brand new group of talented contestants and a new judging panel. The show proved its popularity with 10.5 million people tuning in to watch the first episode.
The new judging panel – Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh, got the audiences’ approval, with most people not fussed about Simon Cowell’s absence.
The front runners of this year’s show seem to be in the younger category. Janet Devlin stole the show, with her version of Elton John’s Your Song. The shy 16 year old got the audience to their feet and the judges were impressed too.
“I don’t think you have any idea how good you are,” Louis commented, “That’s what I like most about you.”
In contrast Frankie Cocozza is set to be the cheeky chap of the X Factor 2011. The 18 year old made a controversial impression early on by revealing his bottom to show off the names of 7 girls he has had tattooed. But his cover of Valerie showed that Frankie isn’t just a pretty face.
Kitty Brucknell was one of the few contestants not in her teens to get through to the next stage of the talent show. Formally a Lady Gaga and Britney Spears impersonator, Kitty is facing accusations that she was headhunted by the show’s producers which could damage her chances in the contest .
However not all the contestants impressed the judges and one in particular, George Gerasimou, took the rejection badly. George launched an attack on N-Dubz star Tulisa, calling her a dog and a scumbag after the judges told him he couldn’t sing. As well as being booed by the audience, Dermot put George in his place telling him off backstage for his behaviour. Go Dermot!
The major twist in this year’s X Factor is that the Live Final Weekend will be held at Wembley Arena in front of an audience of thousands! It’s set to give even the most confident of contestants a bit of stage fright and make for a very entertaining final!
