Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary coming up in 2013 had been the subject of mass speculation. It seems most fans want to see a multi-doctor story and now it seems that William Hartnell’s first Doctor will return in some form, as the BBC dramatises the creation of the Time Lord.
It was previously reported that a docudrama was a possibility following the release of an advert for a BBC Two production job which required the candidate to have “A passion for drama and a knowledge of Doctor Who is essential.”
This has now been confirmed by Doctor Who writer and actor Mark Gatiss through his Twitter account has confirmed his involvement.
“One day, I shall come back”. Thrilled to announce I’m writing a long-cherished drama about the creation of ‘Doctor Who’!

BBC Four has traditionally been the home of docudrama taking on comedy greats such as Kenneth Williams, Frankie Howerd and Steptoe and Son.
Now casting speculation can begin about who will take on the key roles of Sydney Newman, Verity Lambert and most interestingly the Doctor Himself, William Hartnell.
